I’m not really a big fan of tartar sauce, at least not the jarred kind. It just never seemed quite right. But I got a craving for some, can’t explain it exactly. Maybe it had to do with deep frying up some catfish that made me think I needed to slather on some more fat? Maybe it was the creamy contrast to the crispy fish I was craving? Whatever it was lead me to whip up a batch, and oooh weee, was it good. I mean really good, not like the jarred stuff at all. Even better, it was simple to make!
Please note the perfectly fried catfish…no recipe here, just good ol’ Zatarans boxed fish fry and some hot oil.
Ingredients
1 cup mayonnaise, any type
1 tbs lemon juice
2 tbs minced onion
1/4 cup finely chopped Famous Dave’s Signature Pickle chips
Salt & Pepper to taste
Directions
Hold onto your hats, this is a tough one…
Measure 1 cup mayo, finely chop the pickles. Hold on, I have to say something about these pickles “yum”. They absolutely make the tartar sauce something special. But I digress, mince your onion, squeeze your lemon, or use prepackaged lemon juice and mix together.
So easy I just put it all in photo. Don’t forget to add the salt & pepper!
Yup, I mixed mine right in the measuring cup. Why dirty another dish. I am a firm believer in minimizing dirty dishes. It’s my little way of helping the planet. Less dishes, less water used, less soap used = less plastic bottles. LuLu would be proud (she’s my green friend. You know I don’t mean she is literally green. Earth friendly, yeah, that sounds better)
A couple of other uses (no pics…sorry didn’t think about it).
Mix with canned tuna or salmon or mix with eggs or chicken to make stuff your lunch. I did and it was like having a pre-made chicken/salmon/tuna/egg salad mix on hand.
One more picture, cause I feel like I cheated you out of some.
Hello, I found your blog on google and read a few of your other recipes. I like what you have towright. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work . Look forward to see more from you in the future.
Way way to much work! I use the famous Dave’s signature spicy pickle relish! Already has the pickles and onions, plus I add a big tablespoon on top because I am using the vinegar instead of lemon juice. I like more of a 2 to 1 ratio rather than 4 to 1; but whatever floats your boat
